What do you do?
“It all started off with the idea of contemporary folk culture and what than can mean. We started off describing ourselves as a dialogue, not as artists or a company. It’s developed quite a bit from that. We’ve done lots of projects since then.
It’s difficult to define us. We try to avoid calling ourselves artists. We flit between being actual artists to mediators to organisers. We’ve put on a live performance with all the buskers in Sheffield, we’ve organised a bike rally in Leeds, we’ve toured with a mobile cinema around Sheffield, we’ve made documentaries and we’ve just put together a publication which we’ve compiled, edited and designed ourselves.”
What help has Inspiral given you?
“We had a meeting with Inspiral and talked over quite a few things. We had a list of what we needed help with and they had a list of what they could help with and in the end they’ve helped us publish our publication, which will help us with our marketing.”
How has Inspiral’s help impacted on your business?
“They helped us realise that our publication is huge in terms of our marketing. We hadn’t really thought of it in that way before but it does have an identity to it. It’s really important as it gives us a physical representation of what we do, which we can send to artists, publishers and people like Dazed & Confused.”
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?
“There’s so many different things going on creatively in Sheffield. Even after two years, we don’t know half of what is going on. That’s why it is really useful to have people like Inspiral to act as an anchor for all of that and give these opportunities. As far as advice goes, people should just make the most of those opportunities.”
